Chancellor Hawgood thanks the UCSF community for its dedication, leadership, and innovation throughout 2024 and sends wishes for a happy holiday season.

To build awareness of indoor heat illness prevention and reduce the risk of heat-related incidents across all UCSF facilities, a mandatory training launches December 4, 2024 and is a one-time requirement for all campus and health system employees. Compliance is due by March 4, 2025.

Executive sponsors announce the launch of an ambitious initiative to align UCSF Human Resources, Finance, Research, Supply Chain, and Student Information operations into one integrated enterprise resource planning. Known as Project One, the initiative aims to advance the future of work at UCSF to become a leader in business operations within health care and higher education.

Groundbreaking of the UCSF Barbara and Gerson Bakar Research and Academic Building (BRAB) is announced. The BRAB has been thoughtfully designed with input from its future inhabitants, bringing people together using open staircases and collaborative spaces to encourage the natural interactions that spur innovative new ideas

UCSF community is informed that UCSF Health has received its first shipment of the updated adult Pfizer vaccine and is now offering it to patients. Employees who use UCSF for primary care can ask for the vaccine during their next primary care visit. New access points are being created and will soon offer the vaccine through UCSF Health pharmacies at Parnassus Heights and in the Bayfront Medical Building when they open in October.

Report and update regarding Regental approval of the UCSF Clinical and Life Sciences Building, which will be the anchor tenant in the Dogpatch Power Station project and the Parnassus Central Campus Site Improvements Project that will provide a pedestrian promenade and extend the critical utility infrastructure needed for the new Barbara and Gerson Bakar Research and Academic Building.

John Clements, MD, whose discovery of lung surfactant transformed newborn care, has died at 101. He served as a mentor to generations of scientists.
