Strike Notice: April 1, 2025
UPTE and AFSCME will hold a 24-hour strike beginning at midnight on Tuesday, April 1, and ending at 11:59 p.m. UCSF expects to sustain critical operations across the campus and health system during the strike.
Dear UCSF Community,
We have received formal notice that the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) intend to hold another UC systemwide labor action next month.
The 24-hour strike will begin at midnight on Tuesday, April 1, and end at 11:59 p.m. Impacted groups include UPTE’s Health Care Professionals, Research Support Professionals, and Technical Units, and AFSCME’s Service and Patient Care Technical Units. These teammates perform essential roles across UCSF, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, UCSF Fresno, and UCSF Health’s hospitals and clinics.
At UCSF, we remain focused on ensuring continuity of care, education, and research, and on supporting the teams who make that possible. We have strengthened our contingency plans based on our recent experience and expect to sustain critical operations across the campus and health system during the one-day strike.
The University of California (UC) respects our employees' rights to representation and advocacy. The UC Office of the President has been engaged in bargaining with AFSCME since January 2024 and UPTE since June 2024, offering competitive wage increases, expanded leave benefits, and lower health care premium costs for lower-wage employees.
We hope that UC and the unions will reach a fair and equitable agreement soon so that we can turn our collective efforts to advancing our mission and navigating the uncertain financial challenges arising from the rapidly shifting federal policy landscape.
We will continue to share updates as the situation evolves. For the latest information on strike-related impacts, please visit UCSF In the Know. Additional details on the systemwide labor negotiations can be found on the UC Labor News site.
Thank you for all that you do in support of our mission and community.
Sincerely,
