New UC President James B. Milliken Announced
James B. Milliken has been appointed as the 22nd president of the University of California.
Dear UCSF Community,
I want to share with you the announcement about the appointment of James B. Milliken as the 22nd president of the University of California.
As we welcome him to the University of California, I would like to extend my gratitude to Michael V. Drake, MD. His leadership, including through the COVID-19 pandemic, has helped strengthen the entire UC system.
Many of you know that Dr. Drake received his MD from UCSF, completed his residency here, and spent more than 25 years as a professor and ultimately senior associate dean in the UCSF School of Medicine. I am pleased to share that Dr. Drake will be coming back to UCSF as a faculty member after a sabbatical.
To learn more about the new UC President Milliken, you can read the announcement about Milliken on the University of California website.
Sincerely,
Sam Hawgood, MBBS

Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Distinguished Professor
