Federal Proposals on Gender-Affirming Care

UCSF and UC Office of the President are reviewing proposed federal regulations related to gender-affirming care that could affect health care providers serving Medicaid and Medicare patients. UCSF continues to be responsive to the health care needs of our community and is proud to serve all who seek care.

Dear UCSF Community,

Today, the Trump administration announced a broad set of proposed regulations related to gender-affirming care and gender identity, with implications across our mission, including the health care services we provide to minors. Those proposed regulations appear to affect all health care providers that serve Medicaid and Medicare patients. While they are not yet final, UCSF and the UC Office of the President are actively reviewing the implications for our clinical programs, operational requirements, and the patients and families we serve.

The medical and surgical care services we provide, including gender-affirming health services, continue without interruption at this time. If any legal or policy changes affect the provision of care, we will keep our patients and community informed.

UCSF has always been responsive to the health care needs of our community, and that commitment remains unchanged. We are proud to serve all who seek care, regardless of immigration status, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or the complexity of their needs. We recognize the implications these proposed regulations may have for our patients, our caregivers, and the communities we’re privileged to care for, and the weight this moment carries for many across our community.

Sincerely,
