February 26-28 Strike Notices

Notification that University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) intend to hold a UC systemwide labor action at the end of this month.

Dear UCSF Community,

We have received notices from two of our unions that they intend to hold a UC systemwide labor action at the end of this month. We are writing to share information about our preparations for the strikes to help ensure our ability to serve our patients and our community.

The notices were received from the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) union for its Health Care Professionals, Research Support Professionals and Technical Units, and from the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) for its Patient Care Technical and Service Units.

Strike Dates

  • AFSCME:  2 days: February 26 (shifts starting after midnight) - February 27 (shifts ending at 11:59 p.m.)
  • UPTE:  3 days: February 26 (shifts starting after midnight) - February 28 (shifts ending at 11:59 p.m.)

Our employees represented by these unions perform roles at UCSF, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), UCSF Fresno, and UCSF Health’s hospitals and clinics.

To maintain our ability to provide critical care, we have contingency plans in place. We expect to keep most scheduled appointments and surgeries, which are often planned weeks in advance. We also are addressing potential impacts on our dental clinics, our research and academic missions, our facilities, and our transportation operations.

You can find updates about the strikes at the UCSF In the Know website. The UC Office of the President continues to negotiate in good faith with the unions on behalf of the UC system and hopes to reach a fair and equitable agreement soon. For more information on the systemwide labor negotiations, visit this UC Labor News site.

We respect our employees’ rights to representation and freedom of speech. We also respect our employees who choose to come to work and support their patients and teammates during this time.

Thank you for continuing to honor our PRIDE Values and for your ongoing contributions and dedication to serving our patients, our workforce, and each other.

Sincerely,
