Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.

The UCSF community is reminded to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and invited to attend a screening of Rustin as well as to explore and engage with community events and resources.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
Martin Luther King, Jr, 1968

Dear UCSF Community,

Monday, January 20, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday and a National Day of Service. In a world of uncertainty and turmoil, Dr. King remains a shining light in our nation’s history, and his words of hope inspire all of us to work for a better, more just society.

To celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and the profound impact of the Civil Rights Movement, I invite you to attend a free campus screening and discussion of the 2023 film Rustin. Hosted by the LGBTQ+ and Multicultural Resource Centers, the film stars Colman Domingo as civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, a key organizer of the 1963 March on Washington and critical member of the Civil Rights Movement. Please note that this is an in-person event and registration is requested.

Film Screening and Discussion: Rustin
Wednesday, Jan. 22 | 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In addition to the film screening, I encourage all members of the UCSF community to explore and engage with the community events and resources listed on the Multicultural Resource Center website.

Thank you for all you do to make UCSF and our society more just and inclusive.

Sincerely,

Renee Navarro, PharmD, MD
Vice Chancellor
Chief Diversity and Outreach Officer
Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care
