Dear UCSF Community:

Every year, we are legally required to post information from the University and the California State Auditor about the California Whistleblower Protection Act. Please read the attached 2022-2023 California State Auditor Annual Notification, California State Auditor Whistleblower Brochure, and the UC 2022-2023 Whistleblower Poster. Department administrators are asked to print and display where other employee notices are posted. Because some employees may not be working on site, these materials are also being sent by email. These postings are available on the UCSF Office of Ethics and Compliance website.

Dear Colleagues,

University of California President Michael V. Drake issued the UC Community Safety Plan in August 2021. The plan creates a structure for creating a safe campus environment for all community members using four key guidelines: community and service-driven safety; a holistic, inclusive, and tiered response model for safety services; transparency and continuous improvement through data; and accountability and independent oversight. UCSF has been working to fulfill each guideline detailed in the plan.

Today we invite our UCSF community to give feedback on a specific guideline:

Action item 4.1: Each campus, modeling the UC Davis Police Accountability Board’s procedures and policies as minimum standards, will establish an independent, civilian campus police accountability body and procedures to review investigation reports regarding complaints filed against UCPD. The accountability body will include students, faculty, and staff. To avoid conflict of interest and ensure the independence of the accountability body, no member or alternate can be a current or former campus police department employee, or a current employee of campus counsel or the investigation unit. This body will provide recommendations to the Chancellor and Chief of Police to ensure that complaints regarding UCPD policies and the conduct of UCPD personnel are resolved in a fair, thorough, reasonable, and expeditious manner.
