Dear Members of the UCSF Community:

I am pleased to announce the release of the Comprehensive Parnassus Heights Plan (CPHP), which outlines a bold vision for revitalizing our oldest and largest UCSF campus and enhancing the economic and cultural vitality of its surrounding neighborhoods.

The CPHP envisions a Parnassus Heights campus that can serve our current and future needs for supporting the world-class research, education, and care delivery taking place there every day. New and renovated facilities will provide greater flexibility to adapt to future advances in learning, discovery, and healing. The plan also calls for increasing campus spaces that foster interaction and convergence between our mission areas of research, education, and care delivery. Importantly, the plan embraces smart urban planning strategies to meet the evolving needs of the city, community, and University by expanding on-campus housing, easing traffic congestion, leading in sustainability, and providing welcoming spaces for our faculty, staff, and learners, as well as patients, neighbors, and visitors.

This plan marks a significant milestone in our efforts, which began in 2017 when I asked Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Dan Lowenstein and Senior Vice Chancellor Paul Jenny to lead a strategic site planning process for the Parnassus Heights campus to complement plans for the new hospital. The result is a roadmap for the future that reflects input from hundreds of stakeholders both inside and outside of the University. I am extremely grateful to everyone – from faculty and staff to neighbors and community groups – who shared their time and perspectives to bring us to this exciting point.
