Dear Members of the UCSF Community:

I extend our collective condolences to the members of the UCLA community, who experienced a tragic act of violence this morning. The shock of such an event is felt most immediately and deeply at UCLA but affects the entire UC system. Our heartfelt thoughts go to the families and friends of those killed.

We are encouraged to hear that UCLA’s emergency alert and lockdown protocols were implemented effectively. Such events also serve as an important reminder that we all have a role in ensuring the safety and security of our community here at UCSF. A series of safety and security town halls is scheduled for the month of June.

I urge you to do your part:

  • Be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the UCSF Police Department.
  • Register your contact information with WarnMe, UCSF’s mass notification system, to ensure that in the event of an emergency situation that affects UCSF, you will receive timely and accurate information via email, text, and voice messaging. You can sign up using your MyAccess ID and password at

The health and safety of our patients, students, employees, and trainees is of utmost concern at UCSF, and we want to ensure that everyone stays informed in the event of a crisis.
