Dear Colleagues:

I am extremely pleased to inform you that Vice Provost Sally Marshall has agreed to serve as Interim Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) effective January 1, 2010, subject to Regents' approval.

Vice Provost Marshall has my deep gratitude for her willingness to fill this key leadership role during the search for a permanent successor to EVCP Washington, who will begin his new position as Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine and Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences at UCLA in February.

Dr. Marshall has been on the UCSF faculty for twenty-two years and has been highly successful as UCSF’s Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.  The campus will be well served by having an experienced UCSF Vice Provost overseeing this critical area so that the current challenges can be addressed by leadership knowledgeable about the EVCP organization and the campus as a whole.

I thank you in advance for providing your full support to Dr. Marshall as she undertakes this service to our campus.

Sincerely,

Susan Desmond-Hellmann, M.D., M.P.H.

Chancellor
