    State Budget Communications & Advocacy

    As you may know, Governor Schwarzenegger recently released the “May Revision” to his State budget proposal, and the 2010-11 State budget process has now begun in earnest. The May Revision was very positive for UC, proposing the restoration of $305 million that was cut from the University’s budget on a “one-time” basis in 2009-10, and offering $51 million to cover a portion of our unfunded student enrollments.

    Transitions in Global Health at UCSF

    Haile Debas has informed me that he intends to step down as Executive Director of Global Health Sciences (GHS), which he founded in 2003, so that he may focus his energies on important strategic programs and activities. While I have accepted his decision with regret, I am pleased that Debas will continue to play an active role in GHS and for the campus as Senior Global Health Advisor.

    An important message from President Yudof

    I am pleased to inform you that the UC Regents earlier today confirmed my recommendation that Larry Pitts be appointed UC provost. As many of you know, Larry has been serving as interim provost since February 2009.
