    Japan

    Like many of you, I was greatly saddened to hear the news of the earthquake that struck Japan’s coast, triggering a tsunami that devastated northern parts of the country and put a related warning in effect for much of the Pacific. The subsequent nuclear power plant explosions have compounded this crisis, making it the worst natural disaster the country has seen in its recorded history.

    Announcement: Vice Chancellor, Diversity and Outreach

    I am delighted to announce that Renee Navarro, MD, PharmD, will become UCSF’s first Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Outreach. Diversity and inclusion are values strongly held by the UCSF community. One of my top priorities as Chancellor is ensuring that we have not only a diverse workforce and student body but also a welcoming campus climate in which everyone has the opportunity to excel.
